FULL MEMBER (€195 per year)
Full Membership is open to qualified, practicing Interior Designers, Interior Design Architects or Architects with a combined 6 years of experience and education.
Joining criteria for full members:
Those with a minimum 3 year, recognised level 7 or 8 degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture from an accredited educational institution and a minimum of 3 years full time professional experience,
OR
Those who do not meet the relevant educational qualification and who have been in professional practice for a minimum of 6 years and have satisfied the Association of their professional competence and suitability by compliance with the following requirement: Submission of a portfolio book of evidence - based on a prescribed set of competencies, consisting of evidence(s) from relevant work experience and/or education/training to prove they meet the minimum education competencies required for full membership. All full member applicants must carry relevant professional insurances i.e. Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance.
All full members must obtain a set number of CPD points annually
Applicants must provide:
- A copy of your professional qualification and/or portfolio submission of book of evidence
- Proof of insurance. We advise all members to maintain continuous insurance and immediately inform the IA should they become uninsured for any reason.
- Proof of number of years spent in professional practice: Professional practice is years spent employed in an Interior Design or Architectural company, evidenced by employer’s letter stating dates employed and work carried out. Or, if practicing as a self-employed Person - proven by evidence of trading via businesses registration cert or company registration number.
Those whose membership has lapsed in recent years are welcome to apply to re-join the IA if they fulfil the current membership criteria. If you are not able to meet the criteria for full membership you may apply to become an Associate member (depending on your professional qualifications) until you are ready to upgrade your membership.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER (€110 per year)
Associate membership is open to those who have graduated a course of Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture and are practicing members whether as a self employed designer or working within a larger Design Practice.
Joining criteria for Associate members:
Those with a minimum 3 year, recognised level 7 or 8 degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture from an accredited educational institution and a mini-mum of 1 years full time professional experience
OR

INDUSTRY PARTNER

Industry Partners are suppliers of goods and services to the Interiors Industry who wish to become preferred suppliers to IA members. The Interiors Association is Irelandʼs leading professional organisation of accredited Interior Designers, Interior Architects and Interior Stylists. Our members offer design consultancy and project management to the residential, commercial and retail sectors. By joining the IA as an Industry Partner your company will access powerful ways of developing relationships within the industry. It will enable you to promote your services and goods directly to the professionals who are specifying these products.
Companies wishing to join this category should submit the following:
A completed online application form
An online payment or cheque for the annual membership fee. All applications are subject to approval and applicants not meeting the listed requirements will be refunded any membership fees paid.
Industry Partners can include artists, printmakers, craftspeople, lighting specialists, furniture makers, 3D rendering services, visual artists, photographers etc. Those who are sole traders in such categories can apply as Industry Partners at a rate of €195 per year, subject to pre-approval by the IA.
STUDENT / GRADUATE MEMBER
€25 / €50 per year
Student membership is available for those currently enrolled in any course of interior design, interior architecture or architecture. After completing the course they may apply for graduate membership.
Joining criteria for Student & Graduate members:
Student membership is available for anyone studying interior design, interior architecture or architecture. Those studying a related discipline may also be eligible for student membership. Student membership lasts for 1 year. Students may extend their membership on successive years provided that they are continuing to study a design course. Graduate membership is for recent graduates of interior design, Interior Architecture and Architecture courses, up to a maximum of two years duration from the month of graduation.
Please submit the following:
• A completed online application form.
• An online payment or cheque for the annual membership fee.
• A copy of a current, dated student ID card or a letter from your college confirming your status as a current student and the proposed duration of study - or, if applying for Graduate membership:
• A copy of your qualification obtained.
Student or Graduate membership is open to those studying any interiors related course, regardless of the final qualification awarded. We recommend that all students and graduates consider progressing to a degree course on the NFQ in order to eventually qualify for full membership status.)
The interiors Association recommends that all students and graduates obtain work experience with a professional design practice. Student and graduate listings on the Interiors Association website may contain portfolio images provided they are clearly titled as such. Listings may not include business names or details, unless the member is employed by a larger design practice. Those wishing to join as a registered business must apply as Associate or full members.
DESIGN PRACTICE
1 to 2 Full Members - €350 per annum.
Above 2 members - discounted as below
A design practice is an Interiors or Architectural firm or practice that has a number of employees who are eligible for membership under Full, Associate or Graduate sections. The company may wish to join the IA and pay a reduced rate per employee or the employees may pay their own membership fees but avail of a discount for being part of a design practice.
Joining criteria for Design Practice:
Each individual employee holds their own relevant membership, based on relevant category criteria, but is awarded a discount based on the main lead designer/ owner / creative director having their own membership.
There is a discount of 15% on 2-5 memberships per firm and a discount of 25% for 5+ memberships per firm. This discount can also be applied for events and training courses that incur registration fees. (email info@theinteriorsassociation.ie for further information if choosing this option)
Each individuals membership status will have the relevant title - Full, Associate, Student, Graduate. Should a design practice member move on from the design firm they will have an already established membership and can then be listed as an individual.
EDUCATIONAL BODY MEMBERSHIP
0 – 49 students - €595
50 – 99 students - €995
100 + students - €1,395
All Educational Bodies applying for membership must provide interior design courses with an NFQ minimum level 5 or equivalent if course provider does not sit on the QQI framework.
If an Educational Body is not listed on the QQI then they must submit supporting evidence to showcase how their course translates to QQI framework with an equivalent level 5 NFQ or higher.
Student members are eligible for membership from certificate, diploma, degree, post graduate and master programmes from those studying Interior Design or Interior Architecture with NFQ level 5 – NFQ level 9 or equivalent.
All students under the Educational Body member “umbrella” must have a valid student ID card from the member college. Students without a valid student card will not be able to attend events.
